A Risk and Parenting Assessment is an in-depth evaluation that helps determine a parent or carer’s ability to safely meet their child’s needs. It explores parenting capacity, identifies strengths and concerns, and considers any potential risks to the child’s wellbeing, such as substance misuse, domestic abuse, or mental health issues. These assessments provide clear, evidence-based insights to inform court decisions, care planning, or intervention support.
ParentAssess is a specialist, research-based parenting assessment tool designed to explore a parent’s capacity to meet their child’s physical and emotional needs. It places the child at the centre, combining observations, direct work, and analysis to identify both strengths and areas of concern. It is specifically designed for working with parents who have additional learning needs, making it a tailored and accessible tool for more complex circumstances. ParentAssess provides a clear, structured report to assist in court proceedings and care planning decisions.
Together and Apart Sibling Assessments are in-depth evaluations used to determine whether siblings should live together or separately when they cannot remain with their birth parents. These assessments focus on the emotional bonds between siblings, their individual needs, the impact of separation, and each child's ability to thrive in different living arrangements. Through observation, direct work, and consultation with carers and professionals, we provide evidence-based recommendations that prioritise the best interests of each child while considering the sibling group as a whole.
Protective Adult Assessments are specialist evaluations designed to determine whether a named adult is able to offer safe, consistent, and protective care for a child, either in the short or long term. Predominantly used when the risk identified is of a sexual nature. These assessments explore the adult's understanding of risk, ability to safeguard, their relationship with the child, and their insight into the concerns that led to local authority involvement. Through structured interviews, observation, and reference to relevant background information, we assess whether the adult can act in a protective capacity, to safeguard and protect the child from sexual harm risks
Section 7 Reports are court-directed assessments prepared under Section 7 of the Children Act 1989, typically requested in private law proceedings. These reports are completed when the court requires insight into the welfare and best interests of the child in relation to specific issues, such as where they should live or who they should have contact with.
At Nexus Family Connect, our Section 7 reports are undertaken by qualified and experienced social workers. The assessment includes meeting with both parents/carers, speaking with the child(ren) (subject to age and understanding), and liaising with relevant professionals or agencies. The report offers recommendations based on the child’s welfare, safety, wishes and feelings, and any safeguarding concerns—ensuring the child’s voice is central to the final recommendations.
